I figure if I'm going to complain, I might as well be thorough. I officially dislike the new DA, I don't think that's a secret. Here's why...
-As stated in the last journal entry, I dislike how the color used behind the avatars and website button are now different effectively ruining the use of "simulated transparency" effects.
-On top of the the point above, I've discovered that not only has the color been changed, but it's inconsistent. There are DIFFERENT backgrounds on different pages, so even if I changed my avatar and website button, they wouldn't work on all pages. This is bollocks.
-What can I say about the layout that hasn't been said? The use of large blue underlined Trebuchet MS fonts for links is kind of gross. I used to use that font in my web-site...back my Freshman year...
-The layout, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, blows. The header across the top is unappealing in everyway. Who wants to post in an art community where they header is aliased? Both "deviantArt" and the rounded corners look like someone's first attempt at pixel art.
-It took me 20 minutes to find out where the hell someone's scraps were.
-Info is no longer useful on user pages.
-Fly out menus take time to load and are a pain.
-The thought to move the website link and the contact information below the ID picture was simply dumb. All information like that belongs neatly packed together at the top, where it was the first time. It belongs at the top because it belongs with the other bio information, reglardless of the fact that it's always been there by now familiar convention.
-The indentation of comments on the user pages is nice, but it's too much. They need to indent about half to 1/4 as much as comments get lost way too quickly in exchanges.
-I haven't tried to submit something new yet. I don't think I want to.
-When I first came to the new DA, I came directly to my page, vlarg.deviantart.com, only went to plain old deviantart.com did I see the ridiculous mediocre flash intro where they proudly show off this new layout like it's something worth looking at. I hate to break it to them, but it looks like something a middle schooler did as a class project, in a hurry, on an apple IIe...
I'm sure there are plenty more things that are useless, but I'm also sure that other people have ranted, and I'm sure I'll find them eventually.
*Sigh*
I've never seen such a gigantic leap backward in my life. (Except maybe when GW was elected)
