"Every man sees something different when he looks at the heavens." -Joseph Toschlog
Since the Japanese spend so much time being introverted, such as on buses and trains, I would assume that they spend this time elsewhere...at least...elsewhere in their minds. Because of the rigid structure to their social systems, escapism and fantasy culture has become extremely rich and well developed. Take your pic of any fantasy role playing game from Japan...the worlds are vast, the creatures are fantastic, and they takes dozens of hours to play. What better way to escape from the mundane hustle and bustle where it's impolite to start a conversation with a random stranger than to play a game where you HAVE to talk to random strangers to win? Eh...anyway...this image here is what I see when I'm in Japan. I see people on the trains and I wonder what they're thiking...where their mind is...what they're dreaming.
The photograph at the bottom was taken by me during my summer trip to Japan. It was taken from the 18th story of the Ramla building, also known as the Tokyo International Youth Hostel. This is over looking Iidabashi. Notice the sign at the bottom that says Twin Star.
I know this is an old and tired theme of fantasy star-scapes over some real terrain, but I wanted to play around with some great tutorials I found with regards to cool sci-fi stuff. Forgive the cliché image, but it was fun and exciting to delve into genre I've never played with before.
(The photograph was shot with a Minolta DiMage A2, if anyone really cares I can put the exif data up)
The rest of the image was created in Adobe Photoshop CS and CS2
when i saw this picture my eyes kinda looked like that.
WOW, amazingly well done, i really like how the big planet overlaps the border,
and the starscape looks amazing, and... ah heck i just like it all.
well done indeed!

Ask a ninja: If a ninja could be food, what food would it be?
Ninja: A cream puff. A very deadly cream puff.
Well thank you...I'm very glad that you like it! You know, your work "Luminosity" [link] is what inspired me to attempt the star stuff in the first place. It just took me a while to get around to it.
You know...the planet being outside the border was a happy accident. I dragged the planet on, positioned it where I liked it, then increased the canvas size to make the border, but the planet, being larger than the original document, hung over and I thought "Wow...that looks nice." So I didn't really plan on doing that in the first place. Good thing it worked out like that!
it does look rather lovely, that happened to me on my last deviation (the NIN one) but it didn't look good at all so it had to be remedied. Yours looks fabulous, however.
